るいかはEarPlanes をつかったよ。

耳せんみたいなもので、耳に入れるとクウカアツをバランスしてくれるから、いたくないよ〜

ちょっといたくなったとき入れたら、すぐだいじょうぶになった。

I safely arrived in JAPAN! I still have jet lag so its hard, but im really happy.

And my ears were safe :)

I used EarPlanes.

Its like earplugs but when you insert them in your ears, it balances the air pressure. Then it didnt hurt!

When my ears hurt a little, I put them in and it was all better.

早くおきないとだめだけど、楽しみ！あ〜ちゃん（お母さん）も楽しみだよ。

あ〜ちゃんはヒコウキの中に耳いたくなくならないように、Otoventをつかうよ。

つかうのは　すっごく、へんだよ！！！

はなに、ふうせんを入れて　ふくらますんだよ！

I'm going to Japan tomara!!!!

I'm really excited even though i have to wake up early. My mom's pretty excited toooo.

She uses Otovent so her ears don't hurt in the airplane.

It's really funny when she uses it.

You put the balloon in your nostril and blow it up.

I have to laugh whenever I watch her.

I hope her ears are okay.

Friend's HOUSE

昨日るいかの友達の家にとまったんだ〜

そこの家はすごく大きくって、にわにヤギ、ヒツジ、ニワトリ、と犬二ついたよ。

もうすぐ、ポニーもかうって。

そこのにわは３んがいたてで、家も３んがいたてだよ！

すてきだったよ。

Yesterday I slept over at my friendz house.

Her house was so big, in her back yard she had a goat, lamb, chicken, and 2 dogs. 

And she's planning to get a pony soon.

Her backyard is 3 stories, as well as her house.

So beautiful.

でも、ヒコウキの中では多くの人（るいかもふくめて）はキアツのかんけいで耳がいたくなる。

ならないためのティップ：

。あくび

。ガムをかむ

。それで、るいかつかうのは、ヒコウキのための耳せん

I'm going to Japan real soon!!

But on the airplane ride, a lot of people (including me) have discomfort in their ears from the change in air pressure. 

Here are a few tips to avoid that:

. yawning

. chewing gum

. sucking on candy

. swallowing

. "popping:" your ears (by holding your nostrils and blowing with your mouth shut)

. and what I use is a special kind of ear plug. 

children/infants:

. pacifier/bottles/ breast feeding

. crying

Hope these help since  I know it's vacation season and many people are going on trips :]

LAST DAY OF FRESHMAN YEAR!

English:

Yesterday was my last day of FRESHMAN year!!!

Wow this year went by so fast, like any school year. You know when you don't want to go to school, but when you don't have to go, you want to. Gosh i miss everyone already. 

We had finals so I got out early. My 2 friends and I went to lunch and then I slept over at a friends house. 

Then for the next week my schedule is PACKED cuz I'm going to JAPAN in a few days!!

I can nottt wait! :D

前のブログ（５月１０日）にるいかのホケンタイクの先生の弟は耳聞こえなくって、目は見えないってゆうことをかいたよ。

そのるいかの先生と弟はTTYってゆうキカイをつかうとデンワではなせるんだって！

それは、さいしょ一人はオペレータにでんわしてそこからもう一人とつながるの。先生は弟にはなしたいことをふつうにオペレータに言うと、オペレータは弟にTTYをつかってはなしをつたえるよ。そうしたら弟はテンジのキーボードで言いたいことをかいてオペレータは先生にはなすの。もちろん、これをやるためにはせんもんのキカイはひつようだよ。

In a pervious blog (5/10/08), I wrote about my health teacher who has a brother that is deaf-blind. 

Using a device called TTY they can talk to each other on the phone!

First, one of them calls an operator and then the three get connected. My teacher tells the operator what she wants to say to her brother as if she was actually talking to him, then the operator uses the TTY to tell him what she is saying. The brother then types what he wants to say on a braille keyboard and the operator speaks what he wrote to my teacher. But of course, in order to do this, you must have this special device.

ワタナベサダオさんがやってる音楽のはなしを聞いたよ。ワタナベさんは音楽でせかい中の人が一つにつながるようなゆめをもっている。いろんばしょで子どもたちと音楽をリズムで楽しむためにワダイコや、せかい中のいろんなガッキをつかっているんだって。耳がきこえにくくっても、ワダイコのシンドウとたたくすがたは楽しめるよね〜。一どいってみたいな！！！

I talked to Sadao Watanabe, a famous saxophone player. He has a dream of everybody coming to getting as one by music. To enjoy music with rhythm he plays a Japanese drum (wadaiko) and also uses many different kinds of instruments in different places with kids. Even for people who are deaf, they can still be entertained by the vibrations and watching the performance. I wish to go one day!!!

2007 ねんでアメリカで一ばんコウギョウシュウエキをあげたのはThe Policeなんだって。

そのバンドのコンサートはHollywood Bowlって大きいかいじょうで少しまえにやったんだ。

そのコンサートかいじょうで耳は聞こえにくい人のために、シュワをやってカシをつたえたんだって。シュワを見えるためにコンサート中にスポットライトをその人にあててたんだって。

シュワをする人もオドッテてみんな楽しめたみたいだよ。

そんなコンサートすてきたね。

In 2007, The Police was the highest grossing tours of all time. That band recently played at the Hollywood Bowl. During that concert, they got a translator for people with hearing disabilities so they can translate the lyrics for them. So they could see the translator, they put a spot light on them during the show. The translator was also dancing along, so they all seemed to have a good time.

That concert must have been amazing.

Blood Donation @ School

今日の学校はケンケツの日だった。るいかは１４さいなのでできなかったけど、るいかの友達二人は１６さいだからやったんだ。ケンケツするとWarp Toured てゆうコンサートのバックステージパスをみんなもらえるから、あんまりケンケツすきじゃない人でもやったよ。

るいかタイクのじかんにジムにいったら、ケンケツする人はいっぱいねっころがってたよ。

ケンケツする人はバックステージパスもらえるし、チがひつような人の命もたすかるから、二人ともHappyだから、ちょうどいね〜

Translation: 

Today in school, it was blood donation day. I am 14 so I'm not allowed do it, but 2 of my friends are 16 so they got to participate. If you give blood, you get free backstage concert tickets for Warp Toured, so even people that don't like needles decided to do it. 

During PE we went to the gym and i saw a lot of people laying down. The people that give blood get backstage passes, and the people who receive the blood have their lives saves, so it's a win win situation. 

Driving

２００８年6月１日から、日本で耳が聞こえにくい人も車をうんてんできるようになったよ！

いろいろとやくそくあるみたいだけど、耳聞こえにくい人のマークを車につけて、ふつうよりも大きなリアミラーをつがわないとだめ。

べんりなこといっぱいあるけど、きけんあるからうんてんする人も、まわりの人もきよつけないとだめだね。

Translation:

From June 1, 2008, people who have hearing disabilities in Japan are allowed to drive.

There are a lot of rules you have to follow, but they have a special mark they put on their cars, and a big rear view mirror.

It makes things a lot easier, but there are also many risks so the driver and the people near the car have to be especially careful.
